RANDY M. KAPLAN, PhD
Biographical Sketch
Dr. Kaplan is the IT lead of Mandala Partners International. He has been involved with information systems for more than 30 years. His background includes private and public sector experience, research, and education. Dr. Kaplan's experience includes designing and developing new systems, reviewing existing system designs, understanding and revising business processes, and improving IT organizations. Dr. Kaplan has worked in many different industries including pharmaceuticals, clinical laboratories, security, banking, educational research, and the energy industry. His practical experience spans many different types of systems in many different types of contexts.
Dr. Kaplan is the originator of the concept of practical knowledge management, the application of people, their knowledge, organization, and technology to better achieve business goals. He has developed knowledge-based systems and processes for Fortune 500 organizations over the past 10 years. By encouraging organizational cultures to adopt knowledge management behaviors by emphasizing the human aspect of knowledge management, Dr. Kaplan has successfully created various organizational programs in knowledge management augmented as necessary with technology.
Dr. Kaplan presently has an appointment at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as an associate professor in Information Systems. In addition to his teaching responsibilities he is also responsible for revising and updating the curriculum in the information systems program to make sure it meets the needs of those employers who will be hiring Drexel's students. Dr. Kaplan also holds a patent in for the practical application of natural language processing technology to essay grading.
